Golden Birthday is A Golden Opportunity
My dear friend Alexis left me a comment on Facebook asking my what I wanted for my 30th birthday.
Good question, Alexis. What do I want?
Truth be told, there isn't much I need. Which is where I take that question first. When asked I immediatley think, "Oh how sweet of them to ask. I don't need anything! Aww Shucks!"
I already am so blessed to have most everything I need. Loving, supportive, fun friendships and family, a job that connects me to people and is in a great place, air to breathe, the ability just to get up and walk every day, wisdom from past expereinces. I could go on...
But Alexis didn't ask me what I needed, she asked me what I wanted to mark this momentous occassion of turning 30. This is a Golden Opportunity to examine what I want. Soooo....
What do I want....
World peace.
Equality for all people.
For my body to become perfectly balanced and the weight to magically drop off.
To wake up everyday feeling beautiful and desirable.
For eyes that don't look wonky or crossed in certain angles in pictures.
To always be articualte.
A perfect pair of jeans.
Boots that flatter my muscular calfs and make me feel sexy.
A boyfreind who is everything I am looking for and some things I never knew I wanted.
More hours in the day.
White sparkly teeth.
Un-sensitive skin.
Balanced hormones.
But Alexis, I know those weren't the things you were expecting me to request. I do understand the desire to make a purchase for an object or service that you know would bring the recipient joy.
I feel a little awkward in making any request, because I myself am a terrible gift-giver. I always remember a person's birthday, and I almost always remember to call/sing with a birthday wish. But what do I get them? What perfect gift can I give them to express how glad I am to know them and that they are born and to commemorate that day?!!!
So, I googled wish list websites, and took some time to think about what I wanted to put on it. It can serve simply as inspiration- I don't need to have some of the items exactly as they are listed. Here is the link:
http://www.wishlistr.com/paulaheine
Maybe it might be fun for all of my friends and family to start one. That way in the event that we want to buy a gift, we have a place to check out each other's wishes.
I am by no means suggesting a gift is necessary. Really just your presence alone in my life is gift enough. Truly. However, if you feel inclined- I would love it just as much. Oh and let me say too that handmade gifts are ALWAYS appreciated.

Soooo much to share
So much has gone on since i last wrote. So here is a mini update:
1.) My favorite holiday, Halloween cam e and went. I won the costume contest at work, dressed as my alter ego and nick-namesake "Cupcake". I also attended a surprise Halloween wedding, and met up with friends downtown at the Gypsy for awesome late, late night ( in bed around 4am!)
(I tried to post a picture, but it seems my pics from my new camera are too big.. grrrr..)
2.) I have begun planning my trip to Egypt more seriously, for January 2009. Thursday I go for my vaccine shots (hep a & b). Once I know when I am good to go as far as the effectiveness of the shots, I will be booking the tour.
3.) My golden birthday is fast approaching.30 on the 30th!!!! I am sooooooo excited. A gathering is in the works.
4.) I have been working out with my new workout buddy, Beth. She is so great- such a fantastic motivator. I really lucked out because only is she a great workout partner, but she is such fun to be around. Yay Beth!!!! I Am also feeling better about myself as a result of making this a habit. I am feeling stronger and more motivated.
5.) I ordered new business cards. Over the course of the next couple of months, and more intently after my return from Egypt, I am going to be working more with my intuitive gifts. Not all of you know about this side of me- I have for a long time, had a lot of fear around what I could actually do. Fear and judgement. What I am working on now is openness and acceptance of it. Yes I am psychic. Yes I can help people. Yes, I can do work that feels fulfilling and purposeful. I may expand more on this later...
6.) My ex and I are rebuilding our friendship. Believe when I say I wasn't so sure I would ever be in a place to do such a thing, a year ago. But in fact I have come a long way in my forgiveness process. And the truth is we miss each other a lot- the connection is deep and quite psychic. He is a good person who has made some f-ed up choices in the past, and for once in his life is actually stopping to be accountable and do the work he needs to in order to be a more present, loving, trusting, happy person. I am proud of him b/c I know it hasn't been easy.
7.) I have taken to having baths more frequently. I get a lot of my psychic information when I am in the shower or the bath tub. Also in the car. In my dreams. Walking through the mall. Movie theaters....I am working on boundaries and turning it off when I don't want to work. But the bath is a nice way for me to literally cleanse the energy of the day and the people I have interacted with, to be open to any info that arrives via reflection, and to get centered and grounded before I sleep.
So- that's the newest stuff. Oh and that for my birthday I have decided to finally get a cat. I will keep you posted on that development. In the meantime, I am kitten-proofing the apartment.
Sending you all love and hope you are enjoying the awesome autumness,
Paula

This seems to be just for me anyways...
Does anyone actually read this?
Don't answer that. Because it doesn't matter, really. This is a blog, a diary, a journal- for me, by me.
Everything else is just a shortcut to me communicating with those of you who actually find entertainment/comfort/humor/wisdom/whatever in my posts.
On a more exciting note, Athena and I spent the evening together watching: "Ghost Whisperer" (well we only half watched it really in between conversations about...stuff... and by stuff I mean discussing the opposite sex and the many varied ways in which we have interacted with them), "The Ex List" (same conversation, except also including commentary about our astro profiles and how true they were for us each, out of my "Sextrology" book) and finally the movie "Juno" ( very cute/good/funny movie. I love Michael Cera...), since last time I tried to watch that at Athena's, I ..er.. uh.. passed out from being extremely intoxicated.
And now to bed, as it's past midnight, and I want to get up early so that I can have some alone time with my new favorite man- Mr. Bryan Kest. Yogi Hottie.

Love remains
Currently on my bedside table, one of about 5 books, is the novel "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I am only half way through it, and am absolutely enthralled with it.
I feel connected to many of her feelings and experiences. The way she is telling her story is captivating and entertaining. I highly recommend it.
There are many things I have picked up in the book- today a I was thinking about the quote " When the karma of a relationship is finished, only love remains."
What a truth! I can relate to that... Can you believe it will be a year at the end of this month, since I split up with my ex? Where did the time go??!! And during this year, I allowed myself to really experience the emotions of the situation as they came up. Anger, grief, hurt, self-doubt, lack of trust, surrender, forgivness...each feeling powerful and moving in it's own way. Looking back, I am amazed at my strength and how I carried on through it all.
And in the end, in the story of my ex and I - there is no anger left, or regret on my end. There is a twinge of bittersweet sadness at how it ended. But I don't wish him anything bad- I wish him well. And am quite ambivalent about the whole thing now. Because the karma of our relationship is done and over with. All that remains is the thing that connected us in the first place- love.

Mark Friggin Darcy

It's wedding week! Yay !!!My dear friend Alexis & Chris' wedding is this Saturday. Yours truly will be at the helm, steering the ship towards wedded bliss.
One of the things I do to gear up for a wedding is to watch all of my wedding related movies leading up to the big day. To get into the mindset, if you will.
Today I watched "Bridget Jones' Diary", and for those of you who know me well, you know this is one of my all time favorite movies. It's for many reasons: I loved the book - like most who read it- we can relate to Bridget. And then there's Mark Darcy, who's character is a nod to Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy of "Pride & Prejudice" fame. (Also one of my very favorite books / movies; both versions*)

Mr. Darcy of P&P is played by Colin Firth. He reprises that role in the contemporary adapted version of that story, "Bridget Jones' Diary".
And that Mr. Darcy- Colin Firth too, actually, in anything he does- is wicked yummy.

Seriously. He is so damned hot, I can hardly stand it!!
Where is my Mark Friggin' Darcy I ask you???!!!
Where!!!???
*sigh*
*the version done with Keira Knightly & Matthew McFadden was equally as beautiful. My very favorite scene is the last scene in the moor, misty morning, delicious Matthew spilling his heart out to Keira. *sigh* I never tire of watching. Ever.

I hate Hospitals

(not my actual uterus in this pic. I "googled" this image. There were some pretty gross ones...*shiver*)
A week ago today, at this very same time- I was in the ER. For the second time of that week.
The first time was Monday night- when I had to abruptly end a reunion dinner with my friends Anne & Malinda, so that my brother could drive me to the ER. I was in serious pain and scared because I had no idea what was wrong with me.
I left the ER 2 1/2 hours later without seeing a dr, and by my choice. I was feeing better, and they wanted to stick an IV in me-- Hellllllll no!
The next day I saw my naturepath, who sent me to Urgent care. No one could seem to figure out, though there were several theories in the works. I was feeling a little better- the intense pain had subsided by the time I had made it to bed the night before.
But Wednesday morning found me back at Urgent care in pain- they, baffled, sent me back to the ER.
Once admitted into the ER, and after the 4th attempt, the nice male nurse put an IV in my right arm ( Now my arm is all bruised up and it looks like I had the crap beat out of me..). A round of morphine and a pelvic ultrasound later (hey that's the most action I have had in months!), the very cute and friendly (married) doctor informed me that I had a cyst on my right ovary, roughly the size of a golfball.
I was elated! FINALLY I knew what was wrong.
So now what?
Well we wait to see that it shrinks down in month or so.
Take ibuprofin for the pain- Vicadin if needed for intense pain.
Acupuncture on my abdomen.
Avoid strenuous activity (good thing I am currently sans love-ah...)- anything that might cause my cyst to rupture (which = another $$$$ visit to the ER and LOTS OF INTENSE PAIN.)
I am happy to be alive, my friends, and my ovaries and I have had a major bonding expereince.
Also, many thanks to my brother Derrick, and Athena and her mom, for looking after me, laughing at/with me, and being there for me in those moments when I was really, really scared. I love you both so much!!
